Paul Tomlinson

Head if Intellectual Property

Paul combines an in-depth knowledge of intellectual property law with practical experience of working in industry. He advises on both disputes and non-contentious matters relating to patents, IT, copyright, merchandising, trademarks and designs. He is also responsible for trademark filing and managing clients' trademark portfolios.

Paul takes a down to earth, pragmatic approach to intellectual property issues. He acted for the Regatta group on its acquisition of the Hawkshead clothing brand and has also advised on licensing agreements with Formula 1, Matchroom sports, Land Rover and Disney.

Paul spent the early years of his career as an electromechanical engineer before qualifying as a lawyer and gaining a masters' degree in biotechnology law. He qualified with Mills & Reeve in Cambridge and also worked for other leading regional IP firms including Eversheds and Freeth Cartwright before joining Berg Legal in January 2006.

Paul is an accomplished sportsman, having played rugby union for many years. Although now 'retired' from the pitch, he still enjoys coaching and refereeing the occasional match. Paul is also a keen traveller. His favourite places include Sri Lanka, with its vibrant cultural mix, and the relaxed atmosphere of Copenhagen.
